The free and open source content management system Joomla has been used to create some of the web’s most popular websites. However most of its users download the free software and install Joomla themselves.

After buying the website’s domain name and installing Joomla many people want to get their website up and online as quickly as possible. The type of the content the website is going to hold should influence the types of Joomla theme you choose because…

You want your website to look fantastic right?!

Below we have listed some of the best free Joomla templates that are free to download and install right now. We have tried to choose a range which will cover most types of website.

If your site is going to be used by a lot of people using their smart phone, then we have some free mobile friendly themes for Joomla. Responsive themes which can adapt to the devices small sized screen resolution.

We have tried to form a collection free Joomla themes that will cover a wide range of website types:

Free doesn’t have to mean bad. When putting our collection of themes together we looked for those which have been around for a while and have a history of being quickly updated following an update to the Joomla core. Because it’s a free template there are fewer chances of the author being available with a free support service and we don’t want to have to change things our self. Most of you will just want one which “works” and doesn’t require much attention.

We looked for well written code which made a real effort to be one of the better search engine optimized Joomla themes allowing easy SEO promotion of the site and allowing us to focus more on other tasks, whether that be off-site SEO tasks or the website content.

  1. I haven’t used joomla before but it looks like a viable option. I would be interested to know how it compared to WordPress in terms of features. I find myself unable to move away from WordPress at this stage.

  2. I also can’t leave WordPress because it has become like a second nature to me. I was initially scared of it and used to have a blogger account. I don’t know why I was scared of using WordPress but once I figured it out I never looked back.

I don’t really know how Joomla could ever match WP but there are people that are using it. I love the fact that you have a lot of plugins to play with and you can easily have anything you want on your blog.
